The initiatives of the Monuments Men and Women, a commemoration and re-enactment project born at Gotica Toscana aps in past years through the initiative of a group of members and enthusiasts intent on cultivating the memory of the men who saved Florentine and other works of art from Nazi-Fascist destruction and robbery, who worked to return the stolen treasures to their cities, in their museums.
First of all, the ’hero“ Frederick Hartt. “Monuments Man” and American art historian, who in 1945 helped find and return to Florence hundreds of works of art in public collections, particularly the Uffizi Galleries and the Pitti Palace. The works had been hidden by the Nazis in South Tyrol. Hartt was made an honorary citizen of Florence for this effort. Hartt - among other things - published a diary entitled. Florentine Art Under Fire, where he recounts the missions of the Monuments Men in Florence Province.
A diary that provided the inspiration for naming the Facebook and Instagram pages where the group's cultural activities are presented. We invite you to follow the links;
