The MuGot – Museo Gotica is home to HMV - History Military Vehicle Italia. This year, collectors and enthusiasts are participating in a very significant event: the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landing, Operation "Overlord," the largest military operation of World War II.
HMV Italia has been preparing for this participation since 2021 and will bring about 45 various American historical vehicles, including armored ones, and 180 members and their families to France; a logistical operation never before undertaken by an Italian club for a unique experience. The tourism and cultural offerings are extensive and will involve collectors and enthusiasts from all over the world. For us at HMV Italia, it is a unique opportunity to see historical vehicles of all types and to share our experiences. Despite the inconveniences that about 2 million tourists will cause for obvious reasons, the beauty of Normandy and the allure of the history that took place here will provide the backdrop for a unique anniversary where the veterans will once again be the true protagonists.
Arrival in Normandy
First day in Normandy for our crews, who started using the historical vehicles today. It was a free day to get familiar with the camp and accommodations, and to visit the many beautiful attractions of Normandy such as museums, markets, and fields. In the evening, we enjoyed a lovely dinner featuring local products: cheeses, cured meats, pâté, oysters, desserts, and the essential baguettes, which our Bakery Company made sure to procure!
The Planes
The 80th anniversary also includes the presence of WWII planes that are already flying overhead.
The Heavy Trucks of HVM Italia
The fleet of heavy trucks has arrived at Isigny-sur-Mer. Preparations for the base camp are underway as we await the arrival of the crews.
Transport by Car Carrier
And with these two M8 Greyhounds, we have completed the final load. The rendezvous for everyone—car carriers, flatbeds, trailers, and brave souls on wheels—is at the HMV Italia base camp in Isigny-sur-Mer!
