Less than two months to go until the most anticipated reenactment event of the year!
Two days to relive World War II through history, memory, and spectacle, in the symbolic setting of the Gothic Line: Giogo Pass, the site of the Battle of Monte Altuzzo in September 1944.
Organized by Gotica Toscana APS, in collaboration with HMV Italia and local institutions, the event features reenacted scenes, first-person historical storytelling, displays of original military vehicles, installations, functional blank-firing artillery, and much more.

The Program
SATURDAY, AUGUST 30 – NIGHTTIME COMMEMORATIVE MARCH
6:30 PM – Loc. Pianuzzoli
- Gathering of participants
- Ascent to Monte Altuzzo aboard authentic GMC military trucks
- Weapons, equipment, and ammunition check (for reenactors)
- Military-style field ration meal
9:30 PM – Pianuzzoli
- Historical briefing with an introduction to the battle
- Start of the Nighttime Commemorative March, reenacting the real conditions faced by American troops as they approached the German line in September 1944
SUNDAY, AUGUST 31 – REENACTED SCENES
From 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM
- German pioneers and American engineers: practical demonstrations of building and dismantling obstacles, mines, and defensive positions.
- The true story of PFC Andrew G. Biggio: an autobiographical account with a reenactment of his mission on the Gothic Line.
- A British Officer Captured by the 715th Regiment: a theatrical scene inspired by archival documents, featuring real interrogations and historical context.
- Distribution of military rations to all reenactors and participants.
From 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM
- “The Monuments Men”: a performance and presentation dedicated to the men who saved Europe’s artistic heritage during the war
- Allied artillery in action: blank-fire demonstration featuring:
- a 105 mm howitzer
- a British 25-pounder gun
- “Until My Men Are Safe…” The true and moving story of Lieutenant Eyerbacher, an American medic who refused evacuation in order to stay with his men.
- German Paratrooper Gunther Drösiger Speaks. An intense first-person narrative retracing the thoughts, feelings, and experiences of a young German paratrooper during the final phase of the Italian Campaign.
All scenes are performed by expert reenactors wearing historically accurate uniforms and using authentic equipment.
