The Widespread Museum of the Gothic Line of Montese is an open-air route of 23 km that crosses villages and woods, enriched by monuments and by two specific museums: the (1) Montese Historical Museum, and the (2) Iola di Montese Museum. These are three museums, independent of one another but connected across the territory in the narrative of the history of the Gothic Line and of the Montese community.
The Historical Museum and the Iola Museum offer thematic insights and collections of relics, while the Widespread Museum physically and narratively connects these places, creating an integrated experience that allows visitors to fully understand the historical and cultural impact of the Second World War on the territory. Overall, the Montese itineraries offer an immersive experience in history, recounting the wartime events that marked the territory during the Second World War. The route is signposted and accessible, ideal for families and school groups, and represents a dialogue between past and present aimed at peace.
Montese Historical Museum
The Historical Museum of Montese, located in the historic Rocca dei Montecuccoli, offers an in-depth look at historical settlements and local material culture. A significant section is dedicated to the Second World War, with particular attention to the Gothic Line and the role of the Brazilian Expeditionary Force (FEB) in the liberation of Montese. The exhibition includes dioramas, scale models and war relics illustrating the events of the period.
Iola di Montese Museum
The Iola di Montese Museum, housed in the seventeenth-century rectory adjacent to the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, extends over 600 square metres divided into 16 thematic rooms. The museum offers an immersion into ancient mountain culture through reconstructions of domestic and craft environments. In addition, one section is dedicated to the Second World War, with displays of weapons, uniforms and objects belonging to soldiers of the Wehrmacht, the FEB and the American 10th Mountain Division.
