The Italian Regia Aeronautica was born on 28 March 1923. In reality, the Italians with the stars had already been flying for almost forty years, since an Aerostatic Section was created within the 3rd Engineer Regiment in 1885. It was commanded by Count Alessandro Pecori Giraldi, a nobleman from Mugello, near Florence, brother of the more famous Guglielmo who would become one of the generals of the Italian victory in the Great War.
And in Mugello that Gotica Toscana organized an exhibition to commemorate the birth of an armed force that gave so much prestige to our homeland's history. An exhibition full of memorabilia from its origins to today, with numerous explanatory panels that retrace the salient stages of the Italian Air Force and as many multimedia supports. The exhibition WITH VALUE TO THE STARS. THE HUNDRED YEARS OF THE AIR FORCE 1923-2023, set up at the MuGot headquarters in Ponzalla (Municipality of Scarperia and San Piero) will be open to visitors from 21 May to 9 July.
On this occasion, various interesting aeronautical-themed conferences will be held; as well as the presentation of the memoirs of the Mugello aviator Pietro Paladini edited by his son Giancarlo.
