The National Peace Park in Sant’Anna di Stazzema, in the province of Lucca, is a symbolic place of remembrance and reflection on the values of peace, justice and human dignity. Created to commemorate the massacre of 12 August 1944, when 560 civilians were brutally killed by Nazi troops, the Park embraces the village of Sant’Anna, which has become a universal symbol against the barbarity of war.
Inside it are the Ossuary Monument, which holds the remains of the victims, and the Historical Museum of the Resistance, which documents the atrocities of the past and celebrates the courage of the Italian Resistance. The surrounding landscape, among the woods of the Apuan Alps, invites contemplation and remembrance, in a union of nature and history. Every year the Park hosts cultural and commemorative initiatives to promote dialogue and peace among peoples, offering an experience of deep connection with the past and a warning for the future.
