The volunteers, armed with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goticatoscana.eu\/en\/tag\/metal-detector\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"66\">metal detector<\/a>, they identified the spot where the two soldiers had been buried. A few inches from the surface, bones emerged first, then military equipment and personal belongings. Analysis of the findings allowed them to speculate that one of the two soldiers belonged to the command company of the 6th Grenadier Battalion, while the other served as an artillery observer. Among the items found, a steel wedding ring, a Pralongi\u00e0 Refuge medal and a small red heart suggested poignant details of their private lives. Nel settembre del 1944, gli Alleati decisero di lanciare un attacco simultaneo su tre punti chiave per sfondare la Linea Verde 2, la seconda linea difensiva tedesca.\u00a0L&#8217;operazione di conquista inizi\u00f2 il 24 settembre, avvolta in una fitta nebbia che limitava la visibilit\u00e0 a pochi metri. La 34\u00aa Divisione americana attacc\u00f2 Monte Bastione (1300 m), che dominava il Passo della Futa, mentre la 91\u00aa Divisione avanzava verso Monte Oggioli (1400 m), sovrastante Firenzuola. Il giorno successivo, l\u201985\u00aa Divisione punt\u00f2 su Monte Canda (1250 m), situato tra le valli dell&#8217;Idice e del Sillaro.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Le difese tedesche, costituite principalmente dalla 334\u00aa Divisione, dalla 4\u00aa Paracadutisti e dalla 362\u00aa, si trovavano a corto di uomini e materiali. Nonostante la posizione dominante e le difese predisposte, la pressione alleata e l&#8217;insufficienza delle risorse costrinsero i tedeschi a ritirarsi. La ritirata, agevolata dal maltempo che impediva all\u2019aviazione alleata di intervenire, avvenne nella notte tra il 28 e il 29 settembre. Il Passo della Raticosa fu infine conquistato dalla 91\u00aa Divisione, che prosegu\u00ec verso nord, trovando deboli resistenze nelle nuove postazioni predisposte nei pressi di Monghidoro.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The conquest of the Raticosa Pass involved a coordinated attack on key objectives. The peaks of Monte Bastione, Monte Oggioli and Monte Canda, sparsely wooded and with impassable flanks, represented a significant obstacle. However, the combined action of the American divisions proved untenable for the already weakened and increasingly resourced German forces. On the morning of September 29, the pass was occupied under a surreal fog, shrouding the battlefield in eerie silence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The success at Passo della Raticosa marked a decisive turning point in the Allied advance toward Bologna. The 91st Division advanced rapidly to Ca\u2019 del Costa, while the 34th and 85th reached their objectives without encountering significant resistance. Each recovered item is catalogued and, where possible, the personal and military history of its owner is reconstructed. The personal effects of the two German soldiers, as well as their equipment, have been displayed at the Ponzalla Museum, located in Scarperia. This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goticatoscana.eu\/en\/portfolio\/ponzalla-fi-cdrs-center-for-historical-documentation-and-research\/\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"63\">historical documentation and research center<\/a> \u00e8 un luogo dedicato alla memoria, dove i visitatori possono immergersi nella storia della Linea Gotica e riflettere sul significato profondo di questi ritrovamenti.
