An African proverb says: "The young walk fast, but the elderly know the way." Despite their not-so-young age, the volunteers of Gotica Toscana are committed to guiding the new generations in discovering their past. With this spirit, we welcomed about 80 students, along with their very kind teachers, from the "Patrizi" Secondary School of 1st Grade in Recanati, Marche, to the MUGOT – Museo Gotica Toscana.

Professor Catia Piccinini wanted to reward the volunteers of Gotica Toscana APS with a wonderful review. Gotica Toscana APS thanks all of you — students, teachers, and administrators — for choosing to be with us in Scarperia, where the American soldiers of the 5th Army fought against the Nazi-fascists on the Gothic Line for our Freedom. Together, we continue to carry forward with unwavering conviction the values of the Republican Constitution that emerged from the tragic events of the Second World War.

An educational journey between historical memory and nature.

The visit began with an in-depth exploration of the Museum's collections, where students had the opportunity to observe original artifacts from the Second World War. Guided by our staff, they learned the stories behind weapons, uniforms, and personal items, gaining an understanding of the importance of preserving historical memory to fully appreciate the value of today's freedom.

The group then ventured up Monte Altuzzo, a site rich in history and natural beauty. Along the way, they visited bunkers and installations dating back to the conflict, discussing military strategies and the living conditions of the soldiers. The enthusiasm and curiosity of the students made this experience especially enjoyable for everyone. The day was beautiful, and the view from the summit stretched all the way to the snow-covered Corno alle Scale.

The students demonstrated great attentiveness and excellent manners, showing how the new generations, when properly guided and interested in the values of life and altruism, are able to deeply understand and appreciate moments of civic education like this one, based on the direct experience of history and nature.

Educating on the values of Freedom and Peace

The day concluded with a reflection on the importance of values such as freedom and peace. The students, visibly engaged, acknowledged the sacrifice of those who fought for these ideals. We are confident that, through experiences like this, the younger generations will appreciate and defend the values that make our society free and democratic.

MUGOT remains a key reference point for historical education on the importance of World War II. It offers students and visitors the opportunity to connect with the past and reflect on the present through an engaging live experience. Come visit us in large numbers!
