WHO WE ARE

Gotica ToscanaAssociation is an association founded in 2006 that deals with the history of the Second World War, focusing on the Gothic Line in Tuscany and the battles of Passo del Giogo (13–18 September 1944).

WHAT DO WE DO

  • Documentary and field research (survey and restoration of Gothic Line positions).
  • Collection of oral testimonies and historical-archival studies on the Mugello area.
  • Management since 2011 of the Documentation and Historical Research Centre in Ponzalla (Scarperia e San Piero).
  • Exhibition of artifacts in the MuGot – Gothic Line Museum, open to visitors along with the bunkers and the battlefield trails.
  • Organization of exhibitions, meetings, research, and contacts with veterans and families.
  • Organization of events such as A Dive into History ® and The Column of Freedom ®, with reenactments and public events.

The MuGot in Bastogne: remembrance. Christmas 1944 - 2025

The Director of the MuGot, Gabriele Lelli, took part in a journey of remembrance to Bastogne for the 81st anniversary of the Battle of the Ardennes. Together with the delegation of Andy Biggio’s The Rifle project and alongside international friends, the group retraced the symbolic places of the siege, from the famous “NUTS!” to the Bois Jacques, visiting the Bastogne War Museum and the American cemeteries of the Ardennes and Luxembourg, enriched by the moving presence of five U.S. veterans.

Program of *La Colonna della Libertà* 2026 (24–26 April): an itinerant reenactment with WWII historic vehicles from Noceto and Parma to the Cisa Pass and on to La Spezia, returning via Borgo Val di Taro. Registration opens at the end of January.

The memory of the war in Mugello lives on in the places, stories and traces of the Battle of the Giogo. This is why the thesis of Daiana Brunetti, a graduate in Humanities for Communication at the University of Florence, is a significant contribution: “How is the memory of the past communicated in the places of the Gothic Line? The Case of the Battle of the Giogo.”.

A Dive into History 2025: contents and images

The 2025 edition of A Dive into History brought nearly 200 reenactors to Passo del Giogo. Between commemorative marches, artillery, Monuments Men, and scenes of military life, the event transformed the sites of the Gothic Line into a theater of memory. Guest of honor was actor James Madio, star of Band of Brothers, who shared moments of great humanity with reenactors and the public.
