A 88 anni Alfred è venuto in Italia con il figlio Kevin per vedere per la prima volta la tomba del padre, il signaller sudafricano Gert Stephanus van der Merwe Botha, morto il 30 settembre 1944 e sepolto nel Castiglione South African Cemetery. Gotica Toscana li ha accompagnati al cimitero e sui luoghi delle battaglie d’autunno sull’Appennino bolognese.

The Burial of a Wehrmacht Soldier: From the Archives to the Battlefield

Research in the Wehrmacht archives led to the trail of a German soldier of the 715th Infantry Division, killed in the fighting on the Gothic Line and buried where he fell by one of his own officers. After the research was presented at the MuGot, members of Gotica Toscana checked maps, documents and terrain, locating the German strongpoint but not yet the grave. The research continues, and the soldier's story will be told soon.

An Important Donation Enriches the MuGot Collections

A significant private donation enriches MuGot’s collections with new weapons and artifacts from the Second World War. The items will be studied, catalogued and incorporated into the museum displays, helping to tell the story of the Gothic Line through the material evidence of the conflict.

August 29–30: A DIVE INTO HISTORY

On August 29–30, 2026, Un Tuffo nella Storia returns to the Giogo Pass. Organized by Gotica Toscana APS, the event is dedicated to preserving the memory of the Gothic Line. Historical reenactments, guided tours, military camps, and scenes of everyday soldier life will bring key moments from the 1944 Apennine front back to life.

Horizons of Freedom 2026. Guided battlefield tours from August to November

Da agosto a novembre 2026 il Museo Gotica propone il nuovo calendario di “Orizzonti di Libertà”, con escursioni guidate sui campi di battaglia della Linea Gotica. Gli itinerari toccheranno Passo del Giogo, Monte Altuzzo, Cimitero Tedesco della Futa, Peabody Peak, Monticelli e Fontefredda. Prenotazione obbligatoria al 333 196 8080.

“Following in Antigone’s Footsteps” at Cinema Garibaldi in Palazzo

Venerdì 26 giugno 2026, alle ore 21.30, nel Cortile del Palazzo dei Vicari di Scarperia, sarà proiettato il film Sulle tracce di Antigone, diretto da Giovanni Brancale. La serata, inserita nella rassegna Cinema Garibaldi a Palazzo, è realizzata in collaborazione con Gotica Toscana APS. Il film rilegge la tragedia di Sofocle ambientandola nei luoghi della Linea Gotica del Mugello, intrecciando mito antico, guerra, memoria civile e paesaggio storico.

From California to the Gothic Line: young Americans visit the MuGot

An Audi rally discovers the MuGot

About forty members of an Audi enthusiasts' club visited the MuGot, discovering the history of the Gothic Line and the Giogo Pass – a day born of a passion for cars that became an occasion for remembrance and learning.

The MuGot in Bastogne: Memory. Christmas 1944 – 2025

The Director of the MuGot, Gabriele Lelli, took part in a journey of remembrance to Bastogne for the 81st anniversary of the Battle of the Ardennes. Together with the delegation of Andy Biggio’s The Rifle project and alongside international friends, the group retraced the symbolic places of the siege, from the famous “NUTS!” to the Bois Jacques, visiting the Bastogne War Museum and the American cemeteries of the Ardennes and Luxembourg, enriched by the moving presence of five U.S. veterans.

Program of *La Colonna della Libertà* 2026 (24–26 April): an itinerant reenactment with WWII historic vehicles from Noceto and Parma to the Cisa Pass and on to La Spezia, returning via Borgo Val di Taro. Registration opens at the end of January.
