The Gothic Line Association – Workshop of Memory was founded in 2010 by a group of scholars, researchers and enthusiasts of historical themes linked to the Second World War in Italy, with particular attention to the events of the Gothic Line between the summer of 1944 and the spring of 1945, along the front that crossed Tuscany, the Marche and Emilia-Romagna. The founders come from different Italian regions, giving the association an interregional dimension from the very beginning. The main objective of the association is the recovery, preservation and promotion of the historical memory of the Gothic Line in all its aspects: military, social, economic and cultural.
The association’s activities include: historical research, memorial studies, recovery and preservation of wartime memories, educational, teaching and training activities, management of visits in the area, organisation of cultural events, publishing and video productions, setting up and management of museum facilities, creation of trails and memory routes, and development of historical-cultural and tourism enhancement projects. The association is based in Castel d’Aiano (BO), in an area central to the final withdrawal of the Gothic Line front, in a territory heavily involved in the wartime events.
