Gary e Jordan Humble sono il figlio ed il nipote del Cap. Joe Humble, comandante della Co.L del 135th Reggimento della 34th Divisione Red Bull. Per loro Gotica Toscana ha organizzato un battlefield tour – una visita al compo di battaglia – che è iniziato al Museo Gotica Toscana, dove è eretto il monumento alla 34th Red Bull, per poi proseguire sui campi di battaglia.
Al nostro Museo sono esposti numerosi reperti provenienti dal Settore del 135th e 133th Rgt., incluso gli effetti personali del Pfc. Raymond Chamberland, anche lui Co. L, che mori il 14 Settembre 1944 durante i duri combattimenti che la Compagnia si trovo ad affrontare sotto Monte Frassino; partiti il giorno precedente da Barberino di Mugello, la Co. L del III Battaglione si trovò davanti una importante resistenza tedesca ben trincerata.
Per Gary e Jordan una emozione camminare intorno alle fox holes dell’unità comandata da suo padre e suo nonno e vedere con i propri occhi le posizioni tedesche. Joe non è mai tornato in Italia, troppo forti erano gli incubi che tornavano alla mente; molti superstiti delle due compagnie della 34th hanno sempre ricordato quei giorni come giorni di inferno, fatti di “sudore, sangue e morte”, a testimonianza che la 34th Divisione di Fanteria effettuò non solo un finto attacco diversivo, ma fu effettivamente la terza divisione impegnata nella sfondamento della Linea Gotica centrale.

Gary and Jordan Humble are the son and grandson of Capt. Joe Humble, commander of Co.L of the 135th Regiment of the 34th Red Bull Division. A battlefield tour started at the MUGOT Museum Gotica where the monument to the 34th Red Bull is erected and then continued on the battlefields. Many WWII relics from the 135th and 133th Rgt Sector are on display in our museum. including personal effects of Pfc Raymond Chamberland, also Co. L, who was Killed in Action on 14 September 1944 during the hard fighting approaching Monte Frassino; having left the previous day from Barberino di Mugello, Co. L of the III Battalion found itself faced with important, well-entrenched German resistance. For Gary and Jordan it was an emotion to walk around the fox holes of the unit commanded by his father and grandfather and see the German positions with their own eyes. Joe never returned to Italy, the nightmares that came back to him were too strong; many survivors of the two companies of the 34th have always remembered those days as days of hell made of “sweat, blood and death” testifying that the 34th Infantry Division carried out not only a fake diversionary attack but was actually the third division involved in the breakthrough of the Central Gothic Line.
