Who gets to the Mugot – Tuscan Gothic Museum can observe from the road that goes up towards the Giogo and then admire up close in the Museum square a 2:3 scale replica of a famous German plane, the Messerschmitt BF109E.
It arrived in poor condition at the end of August 2023, purchased among the objects of a film set; but it was immediately 'adopted' by the volunteers of Gotica Toscana apt who lovingly restored it as those who carry out historical research and know how to dedicate themselves with passion to the objects, vehicles and artefacts of the Second World War know how to do. As soon as it arrived it already aroused the curiosity of adults and children; dismantled, broken, discolored, it seemed to have landed by mistake in front of the MUGOT.
After two months of patient restoration and reconstruction of the missing parts by volunteers, the Messerschmitt BF109E has become a source of wonder and one more reason to visit the Gothic Museum.
The chosen livery - i.e. the color - is that of the Jadgeschwader 53 "Pikas", which on 25 April 1944 was the protagonist of the shooting down of the B-24 SN 41-29272 of the 450th Bomb Group USAAF over the skies of Marradi, an allied aircraft of the which we are in possession of some pieces. This is another beautiful war story that most people don't know, to be told to younger people to preserve the memory of the war in Mugello and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.
It hadn't arrived yet and it was already arousing the curiosity of adults and children; dismantled, broken, discolored, it seemed to have landed by mistake in front of the MUGOT. After two months of restoration thanks to the members of the Gotica Toscana Museum, the Messerschmitt BF109E, obviously a replica, has become an attraction not only for those who visit the Museum. The livery chosen is of the Jadgeschwader 53 “Pikas” which on 25 April 1944 was the protagonist of the shooting down of the B-24 SN 41-29272 of the 450th Bomb Group USAAF over the skies of Marradi. A new story to tell that many don't know.
