A Dive into History 2025: contents and images

The 2025 edition of A Dive into History brought nearly 200 reenactors to Passo del Giogo. Between commemorative marches, artillery, Monuments Men, and scenes of military life, the event transformed the sites of the Gothic Line into a theater of memory. Guest of honor was actor James Madio, star of Band of Brothers, who shared moments of great humanity with reenactors and the public.

Actor James Madio, renowned for his role as Frank Perconte in Band of Brothers, took part in “A Dive into History” 2025 at Passo del Giogo and visited the MuGot, amid solemn moments, meetings with fans, and reflections on the memory of the Gothic Line.

History speaks. German mess tin with name found on Monticelli

During work in a bunker on Monticelli, Gotica Toscana discovered a German mess tin engraved with the owner’s name. The object, together with a canteen and cutlery, offers a glimpse into the daily life of German soldiers along the Gothic Line and becomes an opportunity to tell the story of food at the front and the vocabulary of military equipment.

The season of excavations and restorations at the German bunker of Fontrefredda has resumed, thanks to the commitment of volunteers and the young people who joined the Gotica Toscana team. Together, they rebuilt trenches, set up interiors, and made a new space of memory accessible.

A Dive into History 2025: free historical reenactment

The Gotica Museum in Scarperia received as a donation the telephone and the reel used in the Vasari Corridor to coordinate the Florence uprising in 1944. A gesture of remembrance from the daughter of traffic officer Erio Breri, a protagonist of the Resistance. The article also retraces the mystery of the Germans’ failure to destroy the Ponte Vecchio.
